A petrol tanker laden with fuel fell at the early hours of Friday, 10th June around the Polo field roundabout in Jos, Plateau State left two persons dead while property worth millions of naira were destroyed, Fire Fighters Magazine gathered.
Caleb Polit, Director of Plateau State Fire Service said a tanker laden with fuel crash and destroyed parts of the Veterinary Teaching Hospital of the University of Jos, the Jos Metropolitan Development Board shopping complex, the Oando petrol station as well as some nearby makeshift shops.
Caleb on an on the spot risk assessment to the scene of the fire incident said, the incident happened in the early hours of Friday when residents were still in bed when the control room of the service headquarters got a call that a tanker had a failed break at the popular roundabout around the said area, which has become a recurring spot in the city metropolis.
Speaking to a cross section of reporters at the scene of the fire incident, a resident of Gada Biu, Yakubu Nyam said he was asleep when a loud noise woke him up with a big bang.
Nyam added, i went out and saw other residents moving towards the scene where it was discovered that “a tanker fell and went up in flames burning shops, vehicles and other property.”
The Satellite Market Fire Service station which is closest to the event of the fire outbreak, after getting instructions from the service headquarter responded promptly but before there could get there one person including the driver of the tanker were confirmed dead and property worth millions of naira were also destroyed.
Caleb Polit the Director, of Plateau State Fire Service, as at the time of filing this report said, “We are yet to ascertain the cause of the fire outbreak.
