No fewer than twelve persons have died in the tanker explosion which occurred at Oshigbudu village in Agatu Local Government Area of Benue State
Fire Fighters Magazine gathered that at the wee hours of Sunday 18/4/2021 a petrol tanker travelling from Oweto and heading towards Otukpo, the driver lost control of the truck and it fell over, spilling its content at the Oshigbudu/Obagaji junction.
The Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Benue State, Yakubu Mohammed, said the tanker lost control.
He said eight males, three females and a little boy have lost their lives as a result of the crash.
Mr Mohammed, who confirmed the incident said that fire erupted after the crash, twelve people lost their lives instantly.
Mr Donald Ikyaaza Wakwagh Director of Benue State Fire Service when contacted through a telephone chat further confirmed the incident. He, however, could not ascertained the number of other property lost to the inferno as at the time of filling this report.
We have sent a combined crew of firefighters from the Benue State Fire Service and that of the zonal command of the Federal Fire Service for detailing Donald said.
“Everything is calm now but you know the tanker lost control and crashed. Immediately it crashed the content affected shops and houses.”
He added that FRSC operatives and other sister agencies are working together to evacuate the casualties and control the situation.
