Dry Season: FCT Fire Service Flags-Off fire Sensitization and Enlightenment Campaign to increase Fire Safety awareness, bans bush burning in the FCT

Acting Director of FCT Fire Service Engr. Sani Saidu has announced the outright ban of all forms of bush burning activities across the FCT forthwith.

He made the disclosure at the inaugural flagged-off of the 2020/21 fire sensitization and enlightenment campaign to increase fire safety awareness across the FCT.

The event which took place at the Etsu of Garki Palace in the Garki District of the FCT was organized by the FCT Fire Service in conjunction with Tesodes Ventures Nigeria Limited, publishers of Fire Fighters Magazine.

Saidu said the move was in line with the Federal Capital Territory Administration to ensure that fire disasters associated with bush burning activities especially during the dry season are nipped in the bud.

“The essence of the fire safety sensitization and enlightenment campaign is to re-awaken safety consciousness and precautions in the people’s mind as the dry season is here.

“The FCT Fire Service will use other avenues available in spreading the message of fire safety, prevention and precautions and we are urging residents of the FCT to also pay close attention to the use of electrical appliances in their homes.”

In his speech at the event, the Acting Coordinator of the AMMC, ably represented by Barr. Isah Abdullahi said the initiative could not have come at a better time than now given the prevalence of destruction caused by fire disasters particularly at this period of the year and expressed confidence that the objectives of the campaign would be achieved.

Earlier in his address, Managing Director of Tesodes Ventures Nigeria Limited, being the consulting firm; partnering the FCT Fire Service in the campaign said the objectives of the campaign are amongst others to build a culture of fire safety amongst residents and communities in the FCT, stem down the growing tide of bush fires, market fires, etc and to set up fire marshals across the six Area Councils of the FCT.

Responding, the host of the event, the Etsu of Garki Alhaji Usman Nga – Kupi commended the organizers of the campaign and especially the FCT Fire Service for being diligent in the discharge of their responsibility by promptly responding to fire disasters in the territory.

“We are happy you are flagging-off this campaign here today and I want to assure you that you have our full support and cooperation. We are also going to make sure that this campaign gets to our people with a view to complying with the directives as issued by the FCT Fire Service.”
