The Federal Capital Territory Fire Service says between January and June 2020, it has responded and attended to 303 fire calls, out of which eight (8) were rescue calls. During the period, the service was able to save 19 lives as well as property worth 1.82 billion naira.
The public relations officer of the service Mr Jeremiah Timveh added that recently and in attempt to further expand its operational activities and to cover the entire districts in the FCT, the supervisory ministry of the agency commissioned a new fire station in Zuba by the Minister of FCT, ably represented by the Director Legal AMMC, Barr Isah Abdullah.
Speaking to correspondence at the occasion, the Director of FCT Fire Service, ACG Opetunsin Julius,said, the operations of the Zuba Fire station has been commissioned today and in earnest has commenced work and we thank God for this mile stone achievement, these will increase our response time in an event of emergency in-line with the international standard which is five minutes response at every 2.5 kilo metre radius, he said.
Opetunsin further explained that before now when there is an emergency in this part of the city it takes us about twenty five minutes to respond from our Kubwa Fire Station but with this new fire station commissioned here today in Zuba, it makes it easier in getting closer to the people so as to save more lives and property, he said.
Opetunsin thank all the dignitaries who grace the occasion and wish them farewell to their respective destinations as they disembark.
