Popular balogun market located at the lagos island has been gutted by fire in the early hours of 29th January, 2020, Fire Fighters Magazine gathered.
The raging inferno was said to have started from Anambra Plaza on Martins street, and spread to about six other structures in the market in the early hours of Wednesday, January 29, 2020 and property worth millions of naira has been lost to the inferno, said Femi.
Speaking to a cross section of reporters at the scene of the incident the General Manager of Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Femi Osanyintolu revealed the cause of the fire incident and said a preliminary investigation uncovered that an attempt to refuel a powered generator was responsible for the fire outbreak. And most of the building failed integrity test and were demolished immediately to create access to the scene of the incident for smooth rescue operation.
The acting Director of Lagos State Fire and Rescue services, Mrs Adesye Margaret Abimbola through a telephone interview confirm that rescue operation is still on going as at the time of filling this report, and no life has been lost, only three officers from the emergency unit sustain injury in trying to carry out rescue operation. Mrs Adeseye said.
She said, the Lagos State Fire and Rescue services with the effort of the Federal Fire Service and LASEMA officials are on top of the situation.
