Houses burnt as tanker explodes in Agudo, Benue

In late hours of Tuesday 14th January 2020, in Agudo village of Benue State, property worth millions of naira was lost when a petrol tanker exploded.

An eyewitness, who spoke on anonymity, an indigene of Tarka, Agudo village said a  petrol tanker fully loaded with pms, which was heading towards Gboko from Makurdi attempted to over- take a vehicle and suddenly waded into a bush burning on the highway, and because of the flammable content it carries was ignited by fire and cause explosion.

The incident, took the Agudo community unawares, while they were sleeping and destroyed many houses and property worth millions of naira. The eyewitness said.

Meanwhile, the Sector Commander of Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Aliyu Baba, confirmed the tanker explosion but said there was no life lost, also, the state police command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Catherine Anene said, “The incident at Tarka happened but no life was lost. It was a lone accident of a tanker. Anene said.

Engr Kumapayi, the Benue state Fire Service Director, confirm to Fire Fighters Magazine through a telephone interview that he is yet to get the full details of the tanker explosion as he was not aware of the incident.
