Petroleum Tanker gutted by fire in Awka: Destroy Lives and Property worth million of naira.

Several lives and property worth millions of naira have been confirmed lost in the wee hours of 10/2/2019.

The Acting Director of Anambra State Fire Service, Mr Martin Agbili, who spoke with our reporter confirmed that a tanker fire accident occurred near the Anambra State Governor’s Lodge in Amawbia, near Awka, the state capital, killed seven persons and destroyed property worth millions of naira at the inferno.

The security post of the Governor’s lodge was affected.


Scores of persons sustained various degrees of injury in the accident while several cars, houses and shops were also gutted by the fire.


The tanker was negotiating a bend at the Amawbia roundabout when it fell and it content ignited and burst into flame.


“Bystanders, mostly petty traders started scampering for their dear life, but a few of them were consumed by the fire. I saw no fewer than seven charred bodies.”


” Several other wounded persons were taken into a nearby hospitals for treatment”, an eyewitness who spoke on anonymity said.


The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Mr Haruna Mohammed confirmed the incident.


He said,” So far, a total number of seven corpses were certified dead at various hospitals by medical doctors while the only surviving victim was referred to the University Teaching hospital Nnewi and was admitted at the intensive care unit of the hospital.
